The KeySupport Validator mobile application ("the App") is provided by KeySupport.net as a utility for validating Federal PIV, CAC, and TWIC credentials.

1. Data Collection and Usage

The App is designed with a "Privacy First" approach. It collects and processes only the data strictly necessary to perform its core function: validating the authenticity of a smart card credential.

  • Credential Data: When you scan a card via NFC, the App extracts the public Card Authentication Certificate. This certificate contains the subject's name and organizational affiliation.
  • Proof of Possession: The App performs a local cryptographic challenge to ensure the physical card possesses the corresponding private key. This process happens entirely on your device; the private key never leaves the card and is never accessible to the App.
  • Validation Service: To verify the certificate's status (expiration, revocation, and trust chain), the extracted public certificate is transmitted securely via HTTPS to the KeySupport Validation Service (VSS) at home.keysupport.net.

2. Data Storage and Sharing

  • No Local Storage: The App does not store credential data on your mobile device after the validation result is displayed and the session is closed.
  • No Third-Party Sharing: Your data is never sold, traded, or shared with third-party advertisers or analytics providers. Data is only transmitted to the authoritative KeySupport VSS for the sole purpose of validation.
  • Service Logs: The VSS backend may maintain transient logs of validation requests for security auditing and service performance monitoring, in accordance with federal identity assurance best practices.

3. Security

All communication between the App and the Validation Service is encrypted using Industry-standard TLS 1.3. We implement modern cryptographic standards to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the validation process.
